I want to be gay!

Posted by Ray on July 12, 2007 12:06 PM

Sorry if comes as a surprise to some people - but I want to be gay!

Let me explain. If you go back 40 or 50 years (and before), read a newspaper or book and you will see that gay was a very much used word, ie, a gay person was a light-hearted fun-loving person and, if you had a gay time, it simply meant you were enjoying yourself.

But it is nothing more than the word I am bothered about, it was an everyday used word, used in headlines and copy and no more thought about than the words laughter or fun.

In today's world we cannot be gay without someone getting the idea it means you're homosexual.

So I'm coming out and standing up for that good old word gay. Mind you, I can imagine a few people saying - GAY, that old misery guts never had a gay day in his life!

Has Freddie had the last laugh?

I remember the old days, when you were a bit wet when you wore the football strip of your favourite team. Mind, that was a long time ago - a very long time ago and things have changed greatly since. These days every supporter in the land wears their teams colours with pride - and none more so than the Mapgie fans.

But what about that new strip. A Newcastle fan walking towards you looks just the job - but that changes when they are walking away from you. What you see from the back just looks like a pinny, yes, a pinny.

Have a look yourself and see what you think, it definitely reminds me of a pinny, you know, something your mother or grandmother used to wear in the kitchen.

It seems clubs will go to any lengths to change their strip enough to force fans into buying the latest look. But sometimes I think they can go too far - just like the Magpies, under the auspices of Freddie Shepherd have done. Unless Freddie knew what was coming and decided to have the last laugh?
