We have had some good fun with Geordie words the last couple of weeks and the chatback seems never-ending. But I am intrigued by an email of one of my readers who said he knew marbles were liggies, but could I tell him what Penkas were?

Remember those Christmas's of long ago, when you used to hang a stocking on the mantelpiece, over the front of the fire (hopefully the fire was out, although I know that always wasn't the case - the dangers we faced!), anyway, back to the chat. Weren't they great memories, at least for most of us lucky ones.

I remember as a kid we used to write out our Christmas wish-lists and gingerly hold them over the fire, let go and watch them fly up the chimney, powered by the roaring fire.

Remember the days when you looked forward to a trip away with the school, if you were lucky enough and your parents could afford it when it arrived.
